It's time for another Windows update. Fortunately, it's only a small one. It's also the last cumulative update of 2020.
There will be no cumulative Windows 10 updates in December, which will undoubtedly please many users. However, Microsoft still managed to sneak one out late Monday (November 30th) before the holiday season officially begins.
What does the Windows 10 Build 19042.662 update contain?
As always, this cumulative update is a mix of fixes, patches, and small changes to Windows 10. A cumulative update is different from the major Windows 10 updates that arrive roughly every six months, like the May 2020 update and the newer update dated October 2020 update.
With that in mind, check out the following list of update highlights:
Updates an issue where Narrator stops responding after unlocking a device if Narrator was used before you locked the device.
Updates an issue that prevents you from finding certain Microsoft Xbox consoles on a Windows device.
Updates an issue where the Microsoft Xbox Game Bar app controls do not display on supported monitors. This problem occurs with certain Microsoft DirectX 9.0 (DX9) games that have variable refresh rate enabled on these monitors.
Updates a problem with USB 3.0 hubs. A device connected to the hub might stop working if you put the device to sleep or restart the device.
Updates an issue where the edit control input focus changes randomly when using the Japanese IME or Traditional Chinese IME.
Updated an issue that made the touch keyboard in the Mail app unstable.
Improves the visual quality of Windows Mixed Reality headsets running in lower resolution mode.
Updates an issue that prevents the PDF24 app, version 9.1.1, from opening TXT files.
The full list of changes in cumulative update KB4586853 can be found on the Microsoft support website.
Many of these updates are likely to fly under the radar as they aren't that important. However, fixes to the Microsoft Xbox game bar and locating Microsoft Xbox consoles are welcome at a time when many users are unboxing new Xbox Series X and Series S consoles.
If you're having problems with devices connected to your PC through a USB 3.0 hub, this cumulative update can fix the problem.
When will the 19042.662 update arrive?
The update is for users with Windows 10 20H2 or 2004. If you are not sure which version of Windows 10 you are currently using, press Windows Key + I.then go to System> Info. You can find your current version at Windows specifications.
This is an optional update. This means that the update does not contain any critical security or feature updates. If you don't install the update manually, it will be included in the monthly Patch Tuesday update, which is mandatory for every Windows 10 computer.
