The way to Use the Home windows 10 Voice Recorder App

If you're looking for an easy solution to record sound, Windows 10 has the tool for you: Voice Recorder.

If you need to create an audio recording for your job or hobby, you can use this free Windows 10 tool. Voice Recorder is a straightforward solution that allows you to record, edit, mark up and share relevant parts.

How to record sound with the voice recorder

  1. Enter in the Start menu search bar voice recorder and choose the best match.

  2. To start recording, select the recording Button. You can also start recording by pressing Ctrl + R..

  3. Choose Break Button if you want to interrupt the recording without ending the session. This way you get a single audio file.

  4. To end the recording session, select the Stop Button. You can also stop the recording by pressing Esc, Backspace, or Space bar.

Note that if you are using an older version of Windows 10, you may need to download the app from the Microsoft Store.

If you close the Voice Recorder window while you are still recording, you will receive a notification that the recording is now paused. However, if you use Focus Assist to turn off notifications, Windows 10 won't display a notification about the progress of your recording.

After you've finished recording, Windows 10 will automatically save the audio file to .m4a Format. You can find the file in the Sound recordings Folder within the documents Folder.

How to hear your recordings

  1. Enter in the Start menu search bar voice recorder and choose the best match.

  2. Select the track you want to hear from the menu in the left part of the window.

  3. Use the slider and the Break/.play Button.

How to add markers

With markers you can identify important parts of your recording and thus simplify the editing process. To add a marker, select the Add a marker Press the or key Ctrl + M.. The mark is displayed as a flag and indicates how much time has passed since the start of recording.

You can also add markers while listening to one of your recordings. Adding a marker does not interrupt or affect the recording. If you want to remove any of the marks, right click on it and select Delete this marker.

How to edit an audio recording with the voice recorder

If you want to keep it simple, Voice Recorder allows you to trim your recordings and keep only the useful parts.

  1. Enter in the Start menu search bar voice recorder and choose the best match.

  2. Select the audio recording you want to edit from the list.

  3. Choose Trim Button. This indicates two pins.

  4. Slide the pens across the bar to select the part you want to keep.

  5. Choose play Click the button to make sure you don't accidentally remove important parts.

  6. Choose to save Click the button when you have finished trimming the recording.

There are two possibilities: Save a copy and Update original. If you think the audio recording needs some polishing, it's better to use that Save a copy Possibility. Updating the original version will remove the audio you permanently trimmed.

Windows 10 automatically names the audio recordings, adds the time and date and the length of each recording. While this is definitely helpful information, it may not be enough.

If you need a large number of audio recordings for your projects, the default names can be confusing. A more efficient way to identify the audio recordings is to name the files yourself. Here's how you can do it:

  1. Open that voice recorder App.

  2. Select the recording you want to rename from the menu.

  3. Press the Rename Button.

  4. Enter a name that gives you enough information about the recording.

  5. Press the Rename Button.

How to share an audio recording

  1. Open that voice recorder App

  2. Select the audio recording you want to share.

  3. Choose share Button.

  4. Select the app you want to share the recording with.

If you're sharing the recording with someone in the same room as you, it may be quickest to use nearby sharing.

How to fix Microsoft Voice Recorder

The first time you use Voice Recorder, Windows 10 will ask you to set up a microphone the settings. You have to allow the app to access your microphone, otherwise the voice recorder will not have an audio input.

This is how you allow the voice recorder to access your microphone.

  1. Right click on the start menu and schoose the settings.
  2. Choose privacy.

  3. Of the App permission List, choose microphone.

  4. Under Allow apps to access your microphoneTurn on the switch.

  5. Scroll down to Choose which Microsoft Store apps can access your microphone.

  6. Make sure that the switch for is activated voice recorder.

Run the troubleshooter for your microphone

Try this quick fix before trying more complicated solutions like reinstalling or updating the drivers. Here's how you can do it:

  1. Right click begin.

  2. click the settings.

  3. Of the Update & security Menu, click Troubleshooting.

  4. click Additional bug fixes.

  5. Of the Find and fix other problems, select the Record audio Possibility.

  6. Choose Run the troubleshooter.

  7. In the new window, select the microphone that you want to repair.

  8. Choose Next button.

If your microphone still isn't working, make sure the microphone is properly connected to your device. If you're using a USB microphone, plug it into a different USB port or a different USB cable.

If you've connected the microphone via bluetooth and it's not working properly, go through this checklist:

  • Make sure you have enabled Bluetooth on your device. Open the Action Center and check that Bluetooth is enabled.

  • Check if the microphone does not need to be charged.

  • Make sure you are in the operating area. You can only connect your devices via Bluetooth if they are 20 to 30 feet apart. Obstacles such as walls also hinder the connection.

  • Check that you are not yet sending a large amount of data over Bluetooth. Sending files using nearby sharing or using a bluetooth speaker will affect the bluetooth connection.
