Small, Mighty: Dell Redesigns Already Compact XPS Desktop

Dell has announced a redesign of its popular XPS desktop, which offers both a fresh new look and some impressive internals. The Dell XPS desktop was a popular choice in student dorms and at home due to its relatively strong performance, modest price, compact footprint, and stylish design.

This year, Dell is building on the strengths of its premium PC by upgrading the XPS 8000 series desktop, increasing performance and reducing dimensions to make this system even more compact.

Dell XPS 8000 series (model 8940) desktop computer, codenamed Diavel. Other products include the Dell S2719DG monitor and the wireless KM KM17 keyboard and mouse from Dell.

Powerful upgrades – including the jump to Nvidia's GeForce RTX 2070 super graphics and a 10th generation Intel Core i9 processor – make this an easy choice for those who buy a PC for content, game, and office work. This makes the XPS Desktop the most powerful XPS system ever built. Dell positions the desktop for tasks such as creative workflow, game and virtual reality applications. The desktop is part of Nvidia's RTX Studio program and contains Nvidia Studio drivers for those who need to rely on the system to create content.

As part of Dell's efforts to make the XPS Desktop even more compact, this year's update will save 5 liters of desktop volume, from 24 liters for the previous generation to 19 liters. Despite the switch to a more compact form factor, this year's system can be easily upgraded with three removable control panels with tool-free access to the housing.

Inside there are also three expansion slots, four storage bays and a 500-watt power supply that can support up to 225-watt graphics cards. This makes the XPS desktop more versatile than an entry-level PC or as such, which can hold up against gaming systems such as the G5 desktop from Dell, especially with an updated Creator Edition configuration with a more powerful graphics card.

Even if you upgrade to a more powerful configuration, a well thought-out thermal system will help keep things cool. Strategically placed vents, high speed fans and voltage regulators maximize airflow to maintain strong system performance.

The XPS desktop is based on the XPS 13, XPS 15 and XPS 17 laptops and is available in the colors mineral white or night sky. It offers a modern and minimalist aesthetic that, according to Dell, fits into any living or office environment.

The XPS desktop will be available from $ 649 as soon as it is available for purchase this month.
