Operate Keys Not Working in Home windows 10? This is What to Do

You can use the function keys to control various hardware functions more quickly and easily. With the Fn keys you can adjust the screen brightness, control the loudspeaker volume or switch flight mode on and off in addition to many functions.

But sometimes these stop working and now you have to open the Action Center or Settings every time you need to adjust your computer settings. If this has happened to you, our guide will help you fix it.

1. Make sure the Fn keys are unlocked

Most of the time, the Fn keys stopped working because someone accidentally pressed the key Fn lock Key. the Fn lock The key also affects other toggle keys, such as: caps Lock or Num Lock This is an easy way to tell if the Fn keys are locked.

2. Check your keyboard

Additionally, if you have a keyboard connected to your computer, try these quick solutions:

  • Disconnect and reconnect the keyboard.

  • For a Bluetooth keyboard, remove the battery, wait a few minutes, and then reconnect it.

  • Connect your keyboard to another computer and see if the Fn keys are now working.

3. Run the hardware and device troubleshooter.

For older versions of Windows, you could have accessed the hardware and device troubleshooter through the Control Panel. Now you need a command line to access it. Here's how you can do it:

  1. By doing begin Menu search bar, search for command prompt and choose the Best hit.

  2. Type msdt.exe -id DeviceDiagnostic.

  3. Press Enter.

This will bring up troubleshooting for both hardware and devices. Click in its window Next to start the troubleshooting process

4. Run the keyboard troubleshooter

If troubleshooting hardware and devices isn't enough to fix your problem and get the Fn keys working again, you can use another Windows tool. This time you can access it through the settings.

  1. Open minded settings and go to Update & security.

  3. click Additional bug fixes.

  4. from Find and fix other problems, click Keyboard> Troubleshoot.

5. Switch off the filter buttons

In Windows, the "Filter Keys" feature is designed to stop repeated keystrokes. However, deactivating it can have a positive effect on the functionality of the Fn keys.

  1. Open minded Switchboard.

  2. Go to Seen from and choose Big icons and Small icons.

  3. click Ease of Access Center.

  4. Of the Explore all settings list, select Make the keyboard easier to use.

  5. Go to Make it easier to type Section and disable that Activate the filter key Opportunity.

  6. click Apply> OK to save your new changes.

6. Update your keyboard drivers

There is a possibility that the Fn keys have stopped working due to an outdated, damaged, or corrupted driver. In this case, updating the keyboard driver should fix the problem.

Follow these steps to update the keyboard driver using Device Manager:

  1. Right click begin and choose Device manager.

  2. Expand keyboard perform.

  3. Right click on the driver and select Update driver.

  4. Select the Search for drivers automatically and click begin.

If you want to download the keyboard driver from the manufacturer's website, make sure you are getting the correct driver for your version of Windows and your processor type. Otherwise it will lead to even more problems.
