Nvidia's unannounced GeForce RTX 3080 Ti is coming soon, and some retailers have already started putting it on sale. Polish retailer X-Kom listed the MSI GeForce RTX 3080 Ti Ventus 3X OC and added credibility to a photo showing a range of these MSI cards that made the rounds last week. While you can't pre-order the card, X-Kom has kept the list since Wccftech discovered it a few days ago, suggesting an announcement and pre-orders will be coming soon.
The timeline makes sense as we are about a month ahead of the supposed start date on May 26th. According to reports, the RTX 3080 Ti will hit the market for $ 999 with 12GB of VRAM and a redesigned GPU core with a cryptocurrency hash rate limiter. That should make the RTX 3080 Ti less attractive to crypto miners and hopefully bring some towards the Nvidia CMP (Cryptocurrency Mining Processor).
The listing does not confirm the May 26th start date and is no indication of how much the card will cost. Nevertheless, X-Kom has a notification system when the map goes live.
With earlier Amp launches coming up, Nvidia will likely hold a virtual event where the RTX 3080 Ti will be announced. The last consumer-facing event took place in January during CES 2021. There, Nvidia announced the RTX 30 series laptops and the RTX 3060, and announced the event almost a month in advance. So far, Nvidia has not announced any further event.
It is possible that Nvidia is trying to keep this launch under control as the demand for graphics cards is expected to exceed supply during the course of 2021. In addition to gamers and crypto miners looking for the latest graphics cards, a global semiconductor shortage has tightened supply chains and made PC components harder to manufacture. Some scalper groups have also become very profitable with the enviable graphics cards, which results in cards sometimes selling out within seconds.
Nvidia is unlikely to be announcing the RTX 3080 Ti alone. Reports show the RTX 3070 Ti is set to arrive in June, and laptops with the rumored RTX 3050 and 3050 Ti have already been on sale.
The MSI RTX 3080 Ventus 3X has a triple fan design, three DisplayPort 1.4 outputs and one HDMI 2.1 output. The RTX 3080 Ti should come with the same cooling solution and connectivity. However, over the 3080, the 3080 Ti is said to be equipped with 12 GB of VRAM and an increase from 8,704 CUDA cores to 10,240 CUDA cores – almost matching the RTX 3090 for 1,500 US dollars.
