HP presented an updated version of the Envy 14 and two 5G-capable business laptops at CES 2021.
HP is a CES heavyweight. The company almost always takes the opportunity to showcase new hardware at the annual CES show in Las Vegas.
Although this year's event is a virtual get-together, HP has stuck to its ethos and removed the covers for four new laptops for 2021.
For the average consumer, the biggest news is an updated version of the popular HP Envy 14.
The standout specs of the new version include 11th generation Intel Core processors, a 16:10 screen that offers 11 percent more display area than the previous 16: 9 screen, and the debut of Delta E <2 color calibration a 14-inch screen.
You also get a fingerprint reader, a physical lock for the webcam, and an AI noise removal tool to ensure voice quality when making calls.
The updated Envy 14 has 16GB of RAM, 256GB of PCIe storage, and weighs just 3.5 pounds. HP claims the battery will last 16.5 hours.
The laptop will go on sale later this month and cost $ 999.
More new HP laptops at CES 2021
While the new Envy 14 is likely to get the most attention, HP has also updated its business-focused Elite Dragonfly range for 2021 – there's an updated G2 model, as well as a brand new Dragonfly Max edition.
The two new models arguably have more similarities than differences. They each have 13.3-inch screens, 11th generation Intel processors (although the i3 is only available on the G2), and support up to 32GB of RAM and 2TB of storage.
Both also offer a single USB 3.1 charging port, two USB-C ports, an HDMI port and a nano-SIM slot.
The main differences between the two models can be found in the display. The Dragonfly Max is only available in a resolution of 1920 x 1080, while the G2 can be configured with either an HD or a 4K display.
You will also find differences in the webcams. While the G2 is capped at 1.2 MP, the Max offers 5 MP. If you've spent a lot of time video calling due to the 2020 pandemic and you expect the trend to continue through 2021, the added quality is almost certainly worth the money.
5G options are available on both devices. At the time of launch, they will partner with AT&T and T-Mobile networks in the US.
Both new business laptops will be available in January, although HP has not yet confirmed prices for either. Based on last year's prices, we would expect them to cost over $ 1500.
