Microsoft Surface Go 2 for entry-level and Surface Pro 7 for mainstream are two of the best 2-in-1 laptops you can buy. They combine the portability of tablets and the broader functionality of laptops. These premium devices usually sell at high prices, but today you can get them at Best Buy for just $ 550. Which Surface device is best for you? Read on to find out.

Microsoft Surface Go 2 – $ 550, was $ 630

Luke Larsen / Digital Trends

As mentioned earlier, the Surface Go 2 is Microsoft's entry-level offering, which means it's the cheapest. Well, something like that. More on that later. Design-wise, it looks the same as the Surface Pro 7, but with a smaller 10.5-inch screen and weighing just 1.2 pounds, it's the more portable of the two. The PixelSense display has a resolution of 1920 x 1280 pixels, making it less sharp than that of the Surface Pro 7. That doesn't make it any less impressive as it bursts into beautiful colors and gets super bright at 408 nits. Microsoft's excellent Surface Pen (sold separately) works with both devices, as does the Type Cover keyboard.

Here's the catch. The Surface Go 2 is cheaper at $ 550 (versus $ 630) at Best Buy, but is not included with the Type Cover. The Surface Pro 7 is below. The Surface Go 2 is also a little less powerful with its Intel Core M processor, which is intended for occasional productivity tasks and the occasional light editing task. However, if you really value portability and just need something for surfing the web, emailing, and updating social media, you can't go wrong with Microsoft Surface Go 2. Get it today for just $ 550.

Microsoft Surface Pro 7 – $ 599 was $ 959

In our opinion, the Surface Pro 7 is a much better investment than the Surface Go 2. In addition to being the more powerful device, it also comes with the Type Cover keyboard so you don't have to spend a hundred dollars on it. At just $ 599 at Best Buy (down from $ 959), that's a steal. This device is powered by an Intel Core i3 processor, which is very fast and can handle basic computing tasks with ease. It can even run some high-performance programs with relative ease (but not all, as this processor is still significantly lower). We believe the Surface Pro 7 can act as your only work device.

The Surface Pro 7's 12.3-inch PixelSense panel is sharper than that of the Surface Go 2 because it contains 2736 x 1824 pixels. However, you'd be surprised to find that Surface Go 2 outperforms it in terms of color reproduction and brightness (this screen hits a maximum of 395 nits). Still, it's a great screen, perfect for streaming and reading content. Another thing that amazes us is that the Surface Pro 7 only offers eight hours of battery life, despite its larger machine, while the Surface Go 2 lasts an impressive two hours longer. However, we think Microsoft Surface Pro 7 is the rounder of the two and we chose the best 2-in-1 laptop of 2020. Get it today at Best Buy with the Type Cover for just $ 599.
