Methods to Allow Collectively Mode on Microsoft Groups App and Net

Microsoft introduced Teams Together mode last year to improve the user experience and compete with other top notch video conferencing apps. With the Together mode you can overcome your team hurdles with a unified window and a custom background.

But how does Microsoft Teams Together mode work and how do you activate it? Let's find out.

What is Together mode in Microsoft Teams?

Microsoft Teams Together Mode is a tool that was introduced to make remote meetings more engaging. It embeds visuals of separate lenses in a common environment that gives you an in-conference effect. Additionally, Microsoft Teams uses AI mapping to cut out your face and shoulders from your respective screens and create an avatar.

Fortunately, Microsoft Teams is now available for personal use, so you can have a video conference with your friends using Microsoft Teams, or even hold virtual family reunions.

You can choose from virtual rooms such as a library, an auditorium or an office, and the avatar will fit into your chosen virtual room. It also allows you to high five with your coworkers and pat people on the back. A meeting must have at least two participants in order to use Together mode.

If you're wondering how to use Together mode in Microsoft Teams, we are here to help. This article walks you through the steps for the Microsoft Teams app and web version.

How to Use MS Teams Together Mode

If you are using the desktop client, follow these steps to enable Together mode:

  1. Go to Settings and check the box next to Activate the new meeting experience. However, this is only necessary for older versions. This option does not appear in newer versions because the new meeting experience is enabled by default.

  2. Join a meeting and hover your mouse pointer over the ellipse icon in the top right corner of the screen.

  3. Choose Together mode.

How to use Microsoft Teams Together mode on the web

To activate Together mode in the web version, you have to perform more or less the same procedure, with one difference. The position of the settings window is slightly different from that of the desktop client. In the web version, it's in the lower corner.

  1. Join a meeting using the Microsoft Teams web version.

  2. Log in and join a meeting.

  3. During the call, you will find a field at the bottom of the Teams screen. Click the ellipsis icon.

  4. Select from the list that opens Together mode, and that should do it.

Note that you may need to contact the administrator to find out if they have allowed Together mode for you.

When you're done, you should be able to see all of your team members in a view of your choice.

When do you need Microsoft Teams Together mode?

Together mode provides a more inclusive environment in a world where remote working has become the norm. Using Together Mode would add value to your MS Teams experience in the following cases:

  1. When the number of participants is high: When using Together mode, you will feel connected in a virtual space and have natural conversations as if you were in a physical world. For example, if you have 30 attendees, you can use an auditorium background where all faces appear to occupy seats in an auditorium.
  2. When your calendar is full of back-to-back meetings: Employees are exposed to meeting fatigue when jumping from one conference to another. With the Together mode, conferences become less stressful and have a similar feel to a face-to-face meeting.
  3. If you want a more engaging experience: Together mode provides a more engaging experience, especially for the host. Microsoft Teams puts the participants together as they would look in a real conference room in order to offer the most realistic experience possible.

More information about the Together mode

You need a minimum of two participants to enable Together mode, and teams can have a maximum of 49 participants in a single meeting. If you activate the Together mode, this does not affect the view of other participants. You will still see the standard Microsoft Teams screen.

Of course, only users with the latest version of Microsoft Teams can activate Together mode, provided the organizer or moderator has activated it. All participants with the latest version can see Together mode as long as the organizer or the moderator has activated it. If the moderator has not allowed Together mode, you need to ask them to enable Together mode.

Bring your meetings to life

You can install Microsoft Teams on Linux, Windows, iOS, and Android devices. You can also use a browser like Chrome or Edge to use the web version when you have a one-time MS Teams meeting. In addition, the Together mode offers a more engaging environment in which participants can experience meetings as if they were at work. However, Together mode is just one of the many features that will appear in Microsoft Teams in 2021.
