Learn how to Get Photoshop for Free

If you're here, you're probably looking for an easy way to use Photoshop for free. It is becoming increasingly difficult to find. Regardless of whether you're editing a fantastic meme or trying to do a professional job for a customer, Photoshop is now almost exclusively a subscription service with regular updates, and the old methods of using an earlier version of the software no longer work. To get the full version of Photoshop now, you have to pay at least $ 10 a month. This is difficult to justify if you are a professional. An entry-level version called Photoshop Elements, however, is available for $ 100 and has multiple pro-level features, but offers users far fewer options overall.

So let's talk about the best way to experience Photoshop for free, and the rare cases where old downloads are the best option for you. You can also try other free online photo editing software or search for the best photo editing apps for iOS or Android if you'd rather work on mobile devices. However, for best results, keep in mind that you will probably also need a great photo editing monitor.

Download your free trial

Currently, the best way to use Photoshop without paying anything is to sign up for the free trial and then cancel before the trial ends (usually seven days). Adobe offers a free seven-day trial of the latest version of Photoshop that you can start at any time.

Step 1: Navigate to the Adobe website and select Start Free Trial when you're ready. Adobe is currently offering three different free trial options. You'll probably want to choose the one on the left, Photoshop, as well as Adobe Fresco, the new version of Adobe's painting app that you may want to try but can always ignore. The middle option, called the photography plan, gives you access to many additional photo tools that you may find useful for your trial.

step 2: You will now be taken to a checkout screen where you will enter your email address (if you are a new user, you may also need to create a password and an account for that email address).

After these steps, the download should start automatically. This download works with both MacOS and Windows 10, as long as you have several GB of storage space for the app and the associated hardware.

step 3: Find the Photoshop_Installer.dmg file and open it. Adobe will then download both the Photoshop program and the Creative Cloud desktop app to your computer, as this can tempt a variety of other Adobe apps besides Photoshop. Now, if you need to, fill out a few quick questions and sign in with an Adobe account or create a new Creative Cloud membership. This is the membership you have to pay for after the trial.

Step 4: You can now use Photoshop for seven days. This starts on the day you download the free trial. Make sure you cancel the trial and remove your Creative Cloud account before your trial ends so you don't pay for anything!

Adobe makes it very difficult for you to sign up after your first free trial and records the downloads made on your computer. If you completely delete Photoshop or use a different computer and sign in with a new Adobe account, you may be able to get another free trial, but it doesn't always work.

The end of Photoshop CS2

Once, Photoshop CS2 (Creative Suite 2) was available for free download if you had bought this old version of Photoshop in the past. Since many people looking for a free Photoshop app only want the options provided by CS2, this worked well for many long-time Photoshop users who didn't want to use a subscription service or want to download new versions.

Unfortunately, there are now major limitations to this process, which for the most part make it impractical for most users. These include:

  • Adobe has disabled activation servers for CS2 and Acrobat 7. They are not supported or updated.
  • An original serial number from a previous purchase was required to download and use CS2. This requirement is no longer the case – now you can only use the special version of CS2 with a single serial number provided by Adobe. Your original software is no longer supported.
  • Windows 10 had increasing problems using Photoshop CS2 due to outdated compatibility. It is now quite difficult to get the software to run on Windows.
  • MacOS is no longer compatible with CS2 since OS X 10.7 Mountain Lion, and current versions of MacOS can no longer support this.

Adobe even removed a recent Photoshop CS2 download from its website to end support for downloading old versions like this. You can still find the CS2 download on various other websites. However, we don't recommend trying it: at best, it won't work, and at worst, it may cause serious problems for your operating system or it may involve malicious software such as viruses.
