Wyze was determined to make this firmware patch primarily to alert users that nothing can beat a real webcam and that the company is not offering any additional changes for this update.
We've put this guide together to walk you through the download and hardware patch from start to finish.
Webcam and surveillance camera cheap
The Wyze Cam V2 isn't particularly new. However, if you need a webcam or security camera that won't cost you too much money, it's a winner. If you also have the Wyze Cam Pan, it will work too.

1. Download the new firmware

Before you zoom in with the Wyze Cam, you must first install the new firmware. Download the zip file here and after unzipping, copy the "demo.bin" file to the root directory of your microSD card. It is recommended to use a 32 GB microSD card.
2. Install the new firmware
After the file has been copied to a microSD card, unplug the power cord from the socket before inserting the card into the slot on the underside of the card. Press and hold the Setup button while reconnecting the power source to the camera. You'll need to hold down the setup button for another three to six seconds until the LED light turns solid blue. Then you can let go of them.
3. Connect it to your computer
The firmware takes approximately three to four minutes to complete the installation. You'll know it's done when the status light flashes amber and blue at the same time. Once you see this, you can unplug the camera, plug one end of the USB-A cable into the back of the Wyze Cam V2 and the other into the available USB port on your computer.
Wyze mentions that it is also possible to use a USB-C to USB-A cable, but it didn't work in our tests. Your computer recognizes the Wyze Cam V2 as an "HD USB camera" so that you can select it as an option in your conference apps.
Coming back to a surveillance camera is a pain
Yes, it helps that the Wyze Cam V2 can be converted into a webcam. However, if you want to use it as a security camera again, you will need to roll it back to the original firmware. It's pretty frustrating as the method is basically the same.
