So you can add a passcode to protect your Telegram messages from prying eyes and unauthorized access.
Telegram is a solid messaging app and a worthy alternative to WhatsApp. While it is safe, if you tend to keep it unlocked, it is not safe from others who may be looking at your phone or computer.
Fortunately, you can add a passcode to prevent anyone from gaining access to Telegram messages even if they have your device. You can also set a timer to automatically lock the Telegram app after a certain amount of time if you are not using it or if you have not been around for a while.
Here's how you can protect your Telegram messages with a passcode on iPhone, Android, MacOS and even a Windows PC.
How to Protect Telegram Messages with a Passcode on iPhone
Adding a passcode to Telegram messages on iPhone is a secure way to prevent unwanted access. This method serves as an extra layer of security besides unlocking the Telegram app using Face ID or Touch ID.
Open that telegram App on your iPhone and tap the gear the settings Icon in the lower right corner.
Choose Data protection and securityy.
Choose Passcode & facial ID for current iPhone models. Older iPhone models without Face ID support are displayed Passcode & Touch ID.
Tap Turn on the passcode and enter a numeric passcode to lock your Telegram app. You can tap Passcode options When you want to switch between a four- or six-digit passcode.
On the following screen, select the option Auto lock Option and choose the duration between 1 minute, 5 minutes, 1 hour or 5 hours. You can also disable or enable the toggle for that Unlock with Face ID (or Unlock with Touch ID) from the window.

With this auto lock enabled, the Telegram app will lock itself automatically when you are not using it or not on your iPhone.
After enabling the passcode for the Telegram, an unlock icon will appear at the top of the main screen next to the Chats label. You can tap on it to lock Telegram's message window.
Next, you can unlock the Telegram app using the passcode, face ID or touch ID. The messages in the Telegram app are blurred by default in the App Switcher.
How to protect Telegram messages with a passcode on Android
On Android phones, you can use the Telegram scanner to lock the Telegram app. You can also use the passcode option. How to activate the passcode in the Telegram app on your Android phone.
Open that telegram App and select the three bars Menu Icon in the upper left corner of the window.
Select the option from the menu the settings.
Choose Privacy and security Option under the the settings Section.
Scroll to the Security section and select Password lock.
Turn on the switch for that Password lock.
In the next window you can tap on PEN Option above to choose between setting a four digit pin or an alphanumeric pin password. When you're done, tap the check mark icon in the top right to confirm the changes.
The next window shows Unlock with fingerprint Option enabled by default. You can choose the one below Auto lock Duration until the telegram automatically locks the app if you are on the road for 1 minute, 5 minutes, 1 hour or 5 hours.
You can keep the option for Show app content in Task Switcher activated if you want to take screenshots (except for Secret Chats) in the app. If you deactivate it, the content of the telegram messages is hidden in the task switch.

After you set up the passcode for Telegram, you can use it or the fingerprint you set on your Android phone.
How to Protect Telegram Messages with a Passcode on Mac
You can also protect your Telegram messages in the desktop version of the app on your Mac. Adding a passcode is pretty similar to the one used for iPhone and Android phones.
Open that telegram App on your Mac.
Click the gear the settings Icon in the lower left corner of the window.
In the left pane, select the option Privacy and security.
In the right pane, select the option Passcode Option and enter an alphanumeric passcode.
After adding the passcode, you can set the Auto lock Duration until the Telegram app automatically blocks it after 1 minute, 5 minutes, 1 hour or 5 hours.
After making the necessary changes, press the button Esc Button to end the telegram settings.
By default, the app switcher on macOS does not blur the messages. So you have to be careful not to open the "Telegram Messages" window.
How to protect telegram messages with a passcode under Windows
On Windows, you can add an alphanumeric passcode to secure your Telegram messages. Here's how to do it.
Open that telegram App on your Windows PC.
Click on the three bars Menu Icon at the top right of the window and select the settings.
Select in the settings Privacy and security.
Scroll down to Local passcode Section and select Activate the local passcode.
Enter an alphanumeric code and click save up Button when you are done. This will add two more options under the Enable Local Passcode setting.
In the Local Passcode section, select the length of time for the new option for Auto lock So that the app automatically blocks the telegram when you are on the road for 1 minute, 5 minutes, 1 hour or 5 hours. Once you're done, press Esc Button to exit the settings.
After you have activated the passcode option of the Telegram app under Windows, a lock symbol in the unlocked state is displayed next to the search bar in the upper right corner of the window. Click the unlocked icon to lock the Telegram app when you are not using it or when you are away from your PC.
What if you forget your Telegram passcode?
It is not advisable to use the same passcode for Telegram's app on the iPhone, Android, macOS or Windows app. And if you use a different one for each platform, it's only natural to forget about them sometimes.
If this happens, delete the Telegram app from your phone or computer that you forgot the passcode on, then download and reinstall it. After registering and logging in again, all chats synchronized with the Telegram servers are restored, with the exception of the secret chats.
Protect your Telegram messages from prying eyes
After activating the Telegram app passcode, no one will be able to see your messages even if you leave your phone or computer unlocked and unattended. Of course, the auto lock feature comes in handy for automatically locking Telegram messages if you forget to manually lock your phone or computer.
