A webcam can be useful for recording and video conferencing. The good news is that almost all modern Chromebooks have a built-in camera, just like traditional laptops.

To shorten the learning curve of using the camera on your Chromebook, Chrome OS includes a camera app that is similar to the one on your smartphone. This app provides a familiar experience that is easy for Chromebook beginners to learn.

So let's see how you can take a picture on a Chromebook while exploring the camera app and external webcams.

How to take a picture on a Chromebook

In this tutorial, the steps will focus on using the touch-free facility. However, you can also use your touchscreen to keep track of.

Here is a step-by-step guide on how to use the webcam to take photos on a Chromebook:

  1. click on the Launcher Icon in the lower left corner of your screen. It usually appears as a circle within the circles.

  2. Then click on that Caret Symbol (^) come there camera in the app drawer. Alternatively, you can use the search bar to find it.

  3. Now you've found it camera app, you can go ahead and start it.

  4. To take a photo, all you have to do is focus the webcam and that take a picture Button located on the right side of the window.

Find the photos you took with the camera app

The photos you take with the camera app are saved in camera Folder automatically. You can access this folder by:

  1. click on the Files Application menu icon

  2. Go to My files > camera

Alternatively, you can download a gallery app from the Google Play Store to easily access your images without having to search for them manually. Gallery Go is one of the many options you have.

Use an external webcam on a Chromebook

Most modern external USB webcams are plug and play. The same goes for Chromebooks. Once you've connected the webcam, your system will automatically record it and you can use it with the camera app.

A new Switch to the next camera Button appears. As soon as you click on it, it switches from your built-in webcam to the external one. Depending on the capabilities of your external webcam, the app offers additional options such as panning, tilting and zooming.

1. Settings

By doing settings Menu you can set the grid, the camera resolution and the timer according to your requirements. It also has the ability to send feedback on the app and view the help page.

2. Mirroring

This button flips the image horizontally to create a mirror image.

3. Grid

With this button you can toggle the grid on and off. In the settings menu you can choose your preferred grid type.

4. Timer

When on, the timer delays the time it takes to take a photo by either three or 10 seconds, depending on which option you've selected in Settings.

5. Modes

You can use your camera in three modes: Video, photo, and square.

6. QR code

This button creates a focused square on the screen that you can place a QR code in to scan it.

7. Take a picture

This is the shutter button for taking photos.

If you want more options, you can go to Google Play and check out the camera apps available. If you're an Android user, you can download the same apps to your Chromebook that you use on your phone.
