How one can Show Battery Share within the Menu Bar in macOS

To get a clear picture of your MacBook's battery level, learn how to add the battery percentage to the menu bar.

Apple's release of macOS Big Sur consisted of numerous changes to the user interface, security updates, bug fixes and – surprisingly – the lack of a battery percentage in the menu bar.

If you usually check your Mac's battery percentage by looking in the top right corner of the screen, this change may startle you a little. You might be even more concerned to find that there is no setting to enable a percentage below System Settings> Battery.

Enable Mac Battery Percentage in System Preferences

Your first thought might be to leave System Settings> BatteryAs mentioned earlier, you won't find an option here to show the percentage in your menu bar.

Instead, do the following:

  1. Start System settings.

  2. Go to Dock & menu bar.

  3. Scroll down in the left menu to battery.

  4. Check Show in the menu bar and Show percentage.

Now you can see your battery percentage in the menu bar.

Enable Mac Battery Percentage with Spotlight

You can also use Spotlight search to display the battery percentage in the menu bar. To do this, proceed as follows:

  1. Stop Command + Space.

  2. Enter "Battery Percentage" and scroll down the left menu until the heading is labeled System settings.

  3. click Dock & menu bar> Battery.

  4. Switch Show in menu and Show percentage to open.

You are done, now the battery percentage of your Mac will be shown in the menu bar.
