Just because the Windows taskbar has a ton of useful information in it doesn't mean you want to see it all the time. If you're looking to learn how to hide the system tray in Windows – at least if you're doing things other than games – you've come to the right place.
The process may vary slightly depending on which version of Windows you're running. In any case, it's still relatively easy. The opposite is also easy. So if you need the taskbar in the future, it's just as easy to bring it back. Here is how.
Automatically hides the Windows taskbar
There are some exciting things about Windows 10, but currently, hiding your toolbar is pretty easy and you can do it anytime you want. Just follow these quick steps!
Step 1: Right-click the system tray (it has to be on the system tray itself, not anywhere on the screen) and select the system tray settings from the menu that appears.
Step 2: On the Settings page that appears, look for the "Automatically hide the taskbar in desktop mode" and "Automatically hide the taskbar in tablet mode" options (if applicable). Make sure both are turned on. Turning them on and off will give you a preview of the hidden taskbar. It should be out of sight at the bottom of the screen.
Step 3: When you're happy with the results, just close the Settings window. The taskbar is now hidden!
If you need the taskbar in the future, just move your mouse to the bottom of the screen. The taskbar magically reappears. When you're done, move the mouse away and the taskbar will hide again.
However, if at some point you find yourself missing your old friends' system tray, it's just as easy to bring it back to the base of your screen over and over as it is to hide it automatically first. Just repeat the steps above and disable the settings button instead of enabling it.
