Using Adobe Acrobat DC
As one of the world's leading applications for reading and editing PDF files, Adobe Acrobat DC is one of the most popular methods for converting a PDF file to an Excel file. As fully featured as it is, it's a paid premium application. Fortunately, there is a free trial available. So, if you just want to do a one-time conversion, this method works great.
Step 1: Download and install the seven-day trial version of Adobe Acrobat DC.
Step 2: Open the software and select the Tools tab.
Step 3: Click the Export PDF icon.
Step 4: Click Choose File and in the resulting window select the PDF file you want to convert. Then select Spreadsheet from the list of export options and decide whether you want an Excel Workbook (.xlsx) or XML Spreadsheet 2003 (.xml) format.
Step 5: If you want to adjust the settings of your eventual Excel document, click on the gear icon on the right side of your selection. You can choose how many worksheets are created and which symbols are used as data separators.
Step 6: When you're happy with your settings, click the blue Export button.
Step 7: Decide where you want to save your new Excel document. Either select one of the recently viewed folders or click the blue Select another folder button. In the pop-up file browser that appears, click Save.
Depending on the complexity of your dataset and the speed of your computer, you may have to wait a few moments while the conversion takes place. When done, the new Excel document will open automatically. You have now officially converted your PDF to an Excel document.
Use a free web application
We understand these programs don't work for everyone. There are many reasons why you cannot install these applications on your system, or you might just want a remote server to do most of the work for you. That's fine. There are other methods you can use to convert these files.
