An internal memo on AppleCare changes suggests that a new round of Apple products could appear next week. According to the memo, Apple wants to prepare its technicians and service providers for new product SKUs and new prices, according to MacRumors.
While rumors point to previous Christmas announcements from Apple, this latest memo suggests that Mac-related or other Apple announcements may indeed be on the way. The internal memo mentions that changes for AppleCare will take place on December 8th at 5:30 a.m. Apple sent similar memos prior to previous launches, including before the iPhone 12 launched.
This time window is usually reserved for Apple announcements of new Mac products, as was the case in the past for the 13-inch MacBook Pro in mid-2020 and the 16-inch MacBook Pro in late 2019. Even the second generation Airpods were announced at this point in the first half of 2019.
There is no doubt that 5:30 p.m. PT is an odd time of day. As such, it is likely that upcoming products will be announced in an Apple Newsroom post instead of a special event on Tuesday, December 8th. Macs are obvious, however, with a launch like this, Apple could potentially also announce AirTags, AirPods Studio, or a new gaming controller with Apple TV.
All of this was the subject of debate in many of the rumors that took place towards the end of the year. According to MacRumors, however, Apple could even announce a small “little accessory” without a blog post.
Apple already had three press events this year, and it would be rare to see a fourth. In September, the Apple Watch Series 6, Apple Watch SE, Apple Fitness + and a new iPad Air and iPad as well as Apple One were announced. Then, a month later, in October, the new iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro, MagSafe accessories, and the HomePod mini were announced. In November, new Macs with the Apple M1 were announced as part of a “One More Thing” event.
It's also important to note that this is still just a rumor as the memo came from "a reliable internal source". Other rumors from famous Apple analyst Ming-Chi-Kuo suggest that new Macs may not hit the market until 2021 and Apple may launch two redesigned MacBook Pro models. These 2021 Macs could come with a new form factor design, Apple silicon chips, and a mini LED display. A redesigned MacBook Air could hit the market in 2022 with the same chip and design.
