Apple Exhibits Off New MacBook Air With No Fan and New M1 Chip

It's the first MacBook Air to feature Apple's new ARM-based M1 chip.

Apple held its "One More Thing" event and focused on everything Mac-related. While previous events revealed the new iPad Air and iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max, this one took viewers on a journey that began with Apple's own M1 chip.

Apple announced many new devices, including a new MacBook Air. The two things that set this Air apart from previous models are the brand new ARM-based M1 chip and the lack of a fan.

During its event, Apple spent a lot of time talking about how much faster this new laptop is than anything else on the market. The company said the new MacBook Air is "three times faster than the best-selling Windows laptop in its class." It is even said to be faster than "98 percent of PC laptops sold last year".

That's a lot of comparisons between other laptop models, and the specifications of the new MacBook Air seem to back it up.

The laptop comes in a few configurations, with the cheapest with an 8-core CPU and a 7-core GPU. This model has 8 GB of RAM and a 256 GB SSD. It has the improved Retina display and all of the new features announced by the company.

The Apple M1 chip with an 8-core CPU and an 8-core GPU offers a higher configuration. This model also includes 8 GB of unified memory and a 512 GB SSD.

Each of the two models can be upgraded to 16GB of RAM if you need a little more storage. You can also upgrade it to a 2TB SSD for quite a bit more money.

The new laptop and other laptops released with the M1 chip can run iOS and iPadOS apps natively on macOS. This opens up a whole range of new ways to use a laptop. It further connects the world of mobile devices and notebooks and could be a big change for people deeply invested in the Apple ecosystem.

The lack of a fan makes this laptop stand out from the crowd. This means that no matter how intense the task you are trying to do, the computer will run completely silent. The company says that "an aluminum heat spreader dissipates the heat generated by the system. No matter how intense the task is, the MacBook Air runs completely silently."

Apple has touted up to 18 hours of battery life on the MacBook Air. That's up to six hours of extra juice over previous models.

Since this is a MacBook Air, size is also one of the main advantages. The air is 11.97 inches wide, 8.36 inches long, and only 0.63 inches deep at the thickest point. It tips the scales at 2.8 pounds.

The new MacBook Air price and availability

Apple announced that the MacBook Air will ship on November 17th or 18th. The cheapest model is $ 999 (or $ 899 on the Education Store). The price jumps from there for the higher configurations.

You can now pre-order any configuration from the Apple Store Online.
