Alienware m15 R5 Comes with Ryzen 5000, MX Cherry Keyboard

Dell has announced the Alienware m15 R5, the latest version of the company's flagship gaming laptop. While not much has changed in the design of the case, it now offers two groundbreaking features: Ryzen 5000 processors and the new Cherry MX ultra-low profile keyboard.

The Alienware m15 R5 now comes with an option for the Ryzen 9 5900HX and an RTX 3080. This is the debut of AMD processors on Alienware laptops, which are in the upper end of the gaming laptop market. So far, Alienware has been an exclusive Intel platform.

This move follows the recent trend in high-end gaming laptops that are finally using AMD's Ryzen processors, which were introduced at CES this year. This is a huge win for AMD, which continues to make significant gains to reach the entire market.

The Alienware m15 R5 is also the first gaming notebook to use a Cherry MX keyboard with switches. They are "ultra-slim" and have been developed to reproduce the tactile feel of a real mechanical keyboard in the tightest spaces of a laptop. However, the Cherry MX keyboard is an add-on and costs extra.

The fifth generation of the Alienware m15 is also featured by a new darker silver color option known as the Dark Core.

Finally, the Alienware m15 now offers a 1440p display option with a refresh rate of 240 Hz. This is also a first for Alienware gaming laptops, in line with the previously announced results from Razer and MSI. A 1080p model with a refresh rate of 360 Hz is also available for even faster speeds.

Like the Intel model R4, which was only launched at the beginning of this year, the Alienware m15 R5 also has an HDMI 2.1 port. It's still one of the few gaming laptops that incorporates the new HDMI standard and allows for variable refresh rates on monitors and televisions that support it. It also supports 3200 MHz user-upgradeable memory.

The Alienware m15 R5 will be available starting April 20, starting at $ 2,230.

Dell has also announced an update to its cheaper G15 gaming laptops. These took inspiration from two notable types of Alienware laptops this time around, including a redesigned chassis and the inclusion of the same AMD Ryzen processors.

The new chassis has a ventilation design along the rear hinge, similar to the Alienware m15. It is now also available in four different color options and with thinner side panels.

The G15 offers the same processor options as the Alienware m15, but the G15 is the maximum on an Nvidia RTX 3070. Dell did not provide any information about updates to its popular G5 SE from last year, which was its first all-AMD system.

The Dell G15 Ryzen Edition will be available starting May 4, starting at $ 900. The Intel version of the G15 will be available April 13th and will also start at $ 900.
