Alexa Present Mode Involves Newer Lenovo Home windows 10 PCs

Lenovo and Amazon want to change the way you use Alexa on Windows 10 laptops.

Alexa Show Mode is now being introduced on newer ThinkPad, IdeaPad, and Yoga Lenovo laptops – an experience that can turn your PC into an Echo Show-like display.

As the name of the feature suggests, Show Mode gives your Lenovo device a hands-free, voice-controlled Alexa experience in full screen mode. It is available in the Alexa app at no additional cost and can be accessed by saying “Alexa, open show mode” or by clicking the “Show mode” button in the Alexa app on a Lenovo PC.

When Show Mode is on, you and your family can use your Lenovo device to play music, set reminders, and view upcoming events. You can also request information on a wider range of topics, play games, read audiobooks, view recipes, or view news highlights. Other features include the ability to control smart home devices as well as Amazon's drop function, which allows you to check in contacts with just your voice. Of course, you can also use one of Alexa's 100,000 skills for other experiences.

"Users can talk to Alexa on a big screen without having to be in front of their PC at all times or having to reach for their phone to get things done," said Amazon in a press release.

The feature was originally introduced at the Consumer Electronics Show in January 2012. Since then, Lenovo has worked with Amazon to ensure that Show Mode works automatically when a device is inactive. They also made sure that the battery, overall performance, and audio quality are top notch. Show mode uses the far-field microphones on a laptop to ensure Alexa can hear you clearly. It also uses a laptop's high resolution display to ensure crisp and clean graphics.

According to Amazon, Show Mode is available today on select Lenovo PCs in the US, the UK, Canada and 10 other countries. You can now find it on Lenovo's flagship Slim 9i. Amazon plans to roll out Show Mode to more PC models later this year, but the timing isn't certain.
