You can delete unnecessary files from your PC to free up disk space or to protect your privacy. However, you may be stressed out to find that you accidentally deleted some of your important files. However, this isn't as big of a problem as you think. There are several ways to get back these deleted files.
In this article, we are going to show you how to recover your files, including those that you may have accidentally deleted permanently.
Can I recover my permanently deleted files?
You can try the methods in this article to get back your permanently deleted files.
Permanently deleting files will not completely remove them from your PC. At least not right away. The files are still in your hard drive space but are marked as inaccessible data. New data will overwrite the files when you use your PC. So, if you want to permanently delete and restore files, you must stop using your PC immediately.
Close all running applications and avoid writing new data to your hard drive to buy yourself more time. In addition to the methods described in this article, you can also use data recovery software to restore your files.
Otherwise, here are the five solutions you can try to get back your deleted files in Windows 10.
1. Recover deleted files with Undo Delete
You may not be aware of this, but you can undo the deletion once you've deleted a file in Windows 10. However, you cannot use this method after you have logged off or restarted your computer.
Here is how you can get back your deleted files by using "Undo Delete":
to open Windows File Explorer and navigate to the folder that contained your deleted file.
Right click anywhere in this folder and select the option Undo move Option from the pop-up menu.
This should be able to recover your deleted file easily. Alternatively, you can restore your file by pressing Ctrl + Z. immediately after deleting the file.
2. Search for deleted files in the recycle bin
If you accidentally delete your files, the first thing to do is to check the Recycle Bin. Unless you make mistakes that permanently delete your files, all deleted files should be moved directly to the Recycle Bin.
First, open the recycle bin by double-clicking Trash can icon on your desktop.
When there are a lot of deleted items in the Recycle Bin, it may be difficult to find a specific file that you want to recover. To make things a bit easier, here's what you can do:
Right-click anywhere within the waste paper bin.
Choose view Option and then select details.
That way, you can sort your files by various factors like that Original location and the Date deleted. These options will then make it easy for you to find your files.
Alternatively, you can use the to search for your specific deleted file Search bar at the top right of the trash can window.
When you find a file that you want to restore, right-click it and choose Restore. If you want to restore all deleted files, press Ctrl + A.Right click on one of the files and select Restore.
If you've configured your PC to automatically delete files from the Recycle Bin, this method won't help. In this case, there is no need to restore any files from the Recycle Bin. In order to get your files back, you need to try the other methods in this article.
3. Recover deleted files with File History
If you've configured your PC to use File History to restore files, here's how you can restore your permanently deleted files and folders:
Press the Windows 10 search bar, Art Restore your files using File History and choose the Best hit.
In the File History window, find the folder where your deleted file was saved.
Find your deleted file and click Restore Button. This should restore your file to its original location.
4. Recovering deleted files using the "Backup and Restore" function
If you took a backup using Windows 7 Backup and Restore Tool, you can still use it to restore your deleted files in Windows 10.

In the Backup and Restore window, click Select another backup to restore files from Possibility.

If you've created a system restore point, you can also use it to restore your files. A system restore point helps you undo changes and return to a previous state on your PC.
5. Recover deleted files using Command Prompt
As a last resort, you can try to recover your permanently deleted files using Command Prompt. Here's how you can do it:
Press the Windows key + R. and type CMD.
Press Ctrl + Shift + Enter to open an elevated command prompt.
Enter the following command:
attrib -h -r -s / s / d C: *. *
Replace C: with the name of the drive you want to restore files from. Then click on Enter to start the recovery process.
Do not use your PC until the process is complete. This will ensure that you will not overwrite your deleted files. Once the recovery process is complete, you should see your files back in their original folder. In case that doesn't work, the best option is to use data recovery software.
Recover all your files with ease
You should now be able to recover your deleted files using the five methods outlined in this article. Note that the sooner you start the process, the better your data recovery results will be.
