Are your parents constantly calling you and wondering how you can do something on their new iPhone? Or do you want to have a sweet Fortnite win that people just have to see? Since iOS 11, Apple has introduced a native option to record the screen on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod. What used to require a third-party app is now an amazingly simple process. Here you will find everything you need to know to take a screen capture.
Set up screen capture
Although screen capture is simple, you will need to make the setting available in your Control Center. To enable screen capture, go to Settings> Control Center> Customize Controls. Select the plus sign (+) next to Screen Capture. You should now see a screen capture icon in your Control Center that you can access by swiping up from the bottom of the screen or down from the top right if you're in an iPhone X series or iPhone 11 series.
Record your screen
Apple has made screen recording a really easy process. Simply open the Control Center and tap the screen capture icon. It is a white circle with a circular ring.
Once you tap it, you have three seconds to close the Control Center before your phone starts recording. A red bar will appear at the top of your screen letting you know that you are recording.
If you want to add audio to your screen capture, it looks a little different. Press the screen capture icon with additional pressure (via 3D Touch) to see more options. A pop-up menu appears in the center of your screen. You can click the microphone audio icon and then click the Start Recording button to get started.
When you're done recording, the quickest way to stop recording is to tap the red timer at the top of the screen. Your notification center will display a "Screen capture video saved in photos" message. You can tap it to go to the Photos app and watch your video. You can also go to the Control Center and tap the screen capture icon to stop recording.
Edit a screen shot
When you're done recording, you can optimize the video. With the Apple photo app, you can easily edit videos.
When you're done recording your screen, you'll see a "Screen capture video saved in photos" message in the notification bar. You can either tap this notification or open the recording in the Photo app to edit it.
Editing a screen capture is the same as editing another video in the Photos app. Open the video in Photos and select Edit in the top right corner. A slider appears below the screen capture. There are toggle bars at both ends of the slider that allow you to edit frame by frame. Drag the toggle bars to make adjustments at the beginning or end of your screen capture, tap Done when you're done, and then tap Save As New Clip.
Screen capture and compatibility with other apps
Keep in mind that some apps may change the way screen capture works or add new screen capture features. A good example is "Mirroring for Samsung TVs", which adds an option to Apple's screen recorder that allows you to mirror the recording to a connected Samsung TV. You can view such apps if you want the Apple Screen Recorder to offer more features.
