There are many reasons why you might want to change your Gmail profile picture. Maybe you have a great new selfie that you want to show. Or you just want to update your work email with a photo that looks current and professional. Whatever the reason, we can help you update your Gmail image in just a few steps. You can also find out whether you want to change your photo using the Gmail desktop website or the mobile app.
Note: While these instructions should change your profile picture for Gmail, you should know two things. First, the change doesn't have to be immediate. It may take a few minutes for your new profile picture to appear on the Gmail website or app. You may need to update your browser or restart your phone to see the changes. Second, although changing your Gmail photo is done through your Google account, your new photo may not appear in all Google services and may vary in Gmail (your new photo will appear in the emails you send , but not necessarily in this profile photo icon in the upper right corner of your screen).
How to change your profile picture in Gmail: Desktop method
Step 1: Go to Gmail from your browser and sign in to your Gmail account if you are not already signed in.
Step 2: Click the icon of your profile photo, which is located in the upper right corner of your screen. From there, you have two options: You can either click the small camera icon at the top of the menu that appears or click Manage your Google Account. When you select the camera icon, just follow the on-screen instructions to change your profile picture, then click Set as profile photo. If you select Manage your Google Account, go to step 3.
Step 3: On your Google Account page, select the "Personal Information" tab on the left side of your screen.
Step 4: In the Photo section, under Profile, click your current profile picture icon.
Step 5: Follow the on-screen instructions to select or upload your photo. Then select Set as profile photo.
How to change your profile picture in Gmail: Mobile app method
Step 1: Open the Gmail app on your mobile device (Android or iOS).
Step 2: On Android devices, tap your profile photo icon in the top right corner of your screen. iOS users should select the menu icon, choose Settings, and then choose the account for which they want to change the profile picture.
Note: From here, Google's instructions are the same for Android and iOS devices.
Step 3: Select Manage Google Account and then tap Personal information.
Step 4: In the Profile section, select your profile picture icon.
Step 5: Tap Set profile photo and follow the on-screen instructions to either take a photo with your phone's camera or select an existing photo from your phone's memory.
