The memory upgrade price for the entry-level 13-inch MacBook Pro has doubled, opening the door to similar cost increases affecting other Apple computers.
Apple tacitly adjusted the price without official announcement, taking the memory upgrade price of the cheapest model of the recently released 13-inch MacBook Pro from $ 100 to $ 200, MacRumors first found.
The double price has also been observed in other countries, including Germany, where the RAM upgrade has risen from 125 euros to 250 euros, and the UK, where it has risen from 100 pounds sterling to 200 pounds.
The RAM upgrade to bring the entry-level 13-inch MacBook Pro from 8 GB to 16 GB is just one of the many options available to customers when checking out the laptop in the Apple Online Store. Other options include upgrades to the processor, memory, and preinstalled software on the computer, all of which have retained their price tags.
Apple's adjusted price for the RAM upgrade is unusual not only because it has increased compared to the traditional decline, but also because the 13-inch MacBook Pro was only released earlier this month.
The reason for the double cost of the upgrade is unknown, but 9to5Mac believes Apple's memory vendor for the entry-level 13-inch MacBook Pro may experience disruptions due to COVID 19 pandemic restrictions.
Apple does not appear to have made any similar adjustments to the RAM upgrades of other Mac computers because different computers have different types of RAM. However, this does not mean that similar price increases will not affect other components, especially if the ongoing health crisis is the main reason.
The 13-inch MacBook Pro starts at $ 1,299
The entry-level 13-inch MacBook Pro has a base price of $ 1,299, but customers who want Intel's 10th-generation Ice Lake processors must pay at least $ 1,799.
The 13-inch MacBook Pro offers confusing processor options and average battery life. However, with an industry-leading display, a thin and light design, an excellent new keyboard and a robust build quality, it remains a solid option for aspiring creatives.
