Which way do you go if you are looking for an inexpensive graphics card to play games? Currently, for $ 150, you can get either the Radeon RX 570 4GB or the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti, both solid options that haven't been around for a long time, but not necessarily at this attractive price.
Today we repeat this fight in more detail as we have been recommending AMD's RX 570 as the best budget graphics card for months, but without doing a full comparison update with the nearest competitor, the GTX 1050 Ti, do so.
We are not going to discuss the specifications of each GPU as it can be assumed that you are all very familiar with them. We tested the GTX 1050 Ti for the first time over two years ago, while the RX 570 was tested several times. But to give you a better context, shooting twice with this special Radeon against the more expensive GTX 1060 was 3 GB (currently $ 200). So you can already say that the RX 570 offers enormous value in this price range.
In total, we tested 36 games with 1080p and 1440p, which cover a variety of game engines and genres. We will discuss some of these results from these titles and then jump into our performance breakdown, which includes all the benchmark results.
Our test bench consisted of a Core i9-9900K with 5 GHz and 32 GB DDR4-3200 memory. The green team represents the MSI GTX 1050 Ti Gaming X 4G and for the red team the MSI RX 570 Gaming X 4G. We used the AMD Adrenalin 2019 Edition drivers 19.1.1 and GeForce Game Ready 417.35 WHQL.

First up is Shadow of the Tomb Raider, a very demanding title in terms of graphics and using the highest quality preset that was a bit overwhelming for the GTX 1050 Ti. While the GTX 1050 Ti only averaged 32 fps, the RX 570 pumped 52 fps and was 63% faster, which is obviously a huge win for AMD.
AMD was by far the biggest win in the Strange Brigade (no surprise that AMD has included this title in its preliminary Radeon VII benchmarks). Here the RX 570 wipes out the 1050 Ti by almost doubling its performance in both resolutions. At 1080p the Radeon GPU was 93% faster and at 1440p it was an average of 60 fps, while the 1050 Ti struggled at around 30 fps. It's pretty unbelievable that the performance ranges can be so extreme.
The RX 570 also beat the GTX 1050 Ti when testing with Battlefield V at 1080p or 1440p. The 1050 Ti was barely able to deliver playable performance at 1440p, while the RX 570 delivered the goods at over 50 fps at all times.
Admittedly, that's not enough for a competitive first-person shooter, but these cards are meant for 1080p gaming, and here the Radeon has maintained over 60 fps at all times.
Sniper Elite 4 is another DX12 title that can use asynchronous calculations. Not surprisingly, the 570 will roast the 1050 Ti again. Here it was 75% faster with 1080p, which resulted in a difference between day and night for the gaming experience.
Monster Hunter World is a very demanding title, but despite the highest preset quality, the RX 570 was able to deliver playable frame rates at 1080p, but not the GTX 1050 Ti so much. Here the Radeon GPU was a whopping 62% faster.
Both GPUs performed well in Warframe at 1080p, and although the RX 570 was 35% faster, the 1050 Ti did well at an average of 91 fps. The performance difference was more noticeable at 1440p, although the RX 570 was still 35% faster than the margin at lower frame rates.
Just Cause 4 is not our favorite title when it comes to optimization, but the RX 570 was still able to deliver very playable performance at 1080p. The same does not apply to the GTX 1050 Ti.
We wanted to discuss the results of Forza Horizon 4, but the margins for this title can be seen in the breakdown graph at the end of the article. Instead, we chose GTA V because this is a title where the GTX 1050 Ti previously outperformed the RX 470.
It seems that through driver development and factory overclocking, the 570 is able to bind it to the 1050 Ti, which offers 10% more performance.
Assassin's Creed Odyssey is usually a bad title for AMD cards. However, the RX 570 is sufficiently faster than the GTX 1050 Ti, so that it also makes a profit and offers 17% more power at 1080p.
With the default "very high" quality, the Radeon RX 570 was able to keep the frame rate above 30 fps at all times and therefore delivered what is known as playable performance. The GTX 1050 Ti averaged 35 fps, but with frequent drops below this mark, gameplay was very choppy.
Next up is Hitman 2, and despite the lack of DX12 support for this last issue of the series, the RX 570 storms home for an easy win and beats the GTX 1050 Ti by 41%.
The previous version of Hitman supported DX12 and when used we find a pretty brutal result. Here the RX 570 destroyed the GTX 1050 Ti with an incredible margin of 64%.
The good news for Fortnite gamers is that each of these GPUs enables playable performance at 1080p. Fortnite uses Unreal Engine 4, which strongly prefers Nvidia hardware, but the RX 570 was 23% faster considering the average frame rates in this popular mainstream title.
Both the GTX 1050 Ti and the RX 570 offer very good playable performance at 1080p in Rainbow Six Siege. However, with a performance advantage of 28%, the RX 570 offers a significantly better gaming experience.
The last game we're going to discuss is World of Tanks. Here, the Radeon offered 33% more frames at 1080p, although both cards performed excellently. At 1440p, the RX 570 with 66 fps on average was significantly better than only 48 with the 1050 Ti.
When released, the GTX 1050 Ti was not as popular as its more expensive sibling, the GTX 1060, which probably offered a better ratio of performance to price. However, when prices for Radeon GPUs were blown up by mining demand, the GTX 1050 series became very popular with gamers on a budget.
Radeon prices have since dropped back to regular levels, and in the case of the RX 570, it is often available for less than $ 170. Prices have dropped to $ 140 in recent months. Before we go into this discussion, let's take a quick look at how these two GPUs can be compared across all 36 tested titles.
On average, the 1080p Radeon RX 570 was astonishingly 43% faster than the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti. Where AMD was unable to deliver high-end products, they underpower the budget and mainstream GPU solutions $ 300 well again.
The greatest AMD victories in this comparison were achieved with DX12 titles that support Async Compute. AMD sponsored Strange Brigade and Sniper Elite 4. In the meantime, the smallest victories were achieved at Grand Theft Auto V and Assassins Creed Odyssey. Neither of the two titles has proven to be AMD-friendly in the past, but the RX 570 can still climb above the GTX 1050 Ti here.
Without a doubt, the RX 570 is a faster GPU and now that the price is the same as the 1050 Ti or generally a little cheaper, it is the obvious choice for most players. We'll find that the RX 570's power consumption is significantly higher than that of the GeForce, but you see significantly less than 300 watts for total system consumption. Although it's extreme compared to the 1050 Ti, overall it's not outrageous.
