Video background images can be extremely extreme. Most of us prefer static high resolution wallpapers and love to download them in bulk. However, there is a third type of background image: the GIF background image.
It's easy for smartphones, but Windows doesn't support it by default. So we have to rely on workarounds.
How to set a GIF wallpaper on Windows 10
Rainmeter is one of the most popular desktop customization software. While this can be used to set up an animated GIF background image on Windows, the process is complicated for the new user.
So let's do the work for us with simpler software.
Plastuer can help you set GIFs, videos and HTML5 web pages as wallpaper. It is an independent program without installation. Plastuer is also a donation commodity, where you only pay for what you want (at least $ 2 for PayPal fees) and download the 82MB file.
There is no free trial. So buy them for any amount and try them out.
The software uses WebGL and the open source Chromium browser to render animations on the desktop.
Unzip the downloaded Plastuer package and click on the program icon.
The software supports multiple monitors. When it starts, the number of monitors is recognized and you can choose which monitor to select.
You can choose an animated GIF in many ways.
- Use the URL field to point it to a source for a GIF.
- You can also add multiple URLs with that Create playlist Field box.
- click on Choose file Option to select a GIF file from your PC.
- Alternatively, choose Search gallery to select a GIF from the official gallery.
Select the monitor to set the background image and click Save to complete the setup.
You can deactivate the active background image at any time by clicking Disable background image Button.
You may also want to go to Settings and set the behavior of the background image when a full screen mode or maximized application such as a movie or a game is activated. By default, Plastuer automatically detects full-screen and maximized applications to stop animation and save memory.
