Asus P6T Deluxe Intel X58 motherboard evaluation

After you recently examined the new Intel Core i7 processors, the timing seems to be perfect to also show you in detail a motherboard that should use these CPUs. The Asus P6T Deluxe is equipped with the new Intel X58 chipset and one of the first Core i7 motherboards available on the market.

Since the Core i7 is only available this month, you can expect to pay premium prices not only for the processors, but also for the motherboard that comes with this purchase. First of all, we expect the P6T Deluxe to be retailable for just over $ 300, making it an expensive alternative.

Because of the additional cost of moving to a new platform, building a new Core i7 computer becomes quite difficult. The base model's Core i7 processor initially brings you back $ 284, which is not a bad thing, but in combination with a $ 300 motherboard and a three-channel DDR3 memory kit that alone rounds up the courage of a Core i7 System should amount to $ 800.

Given the lightning-fast performance of this new platform, it may not be too difficult for those who can afford to justify the price. After all, a few years ago you could pay $ 1,000 for a top-of-the-range Pentium 4 that warmed up like crazy. Today's cheaper alternative is the Core 2 Duo, which is not a problem. Therefore, entering the Core i7 territory can be considered a luxury.

But back to the P6T Deluxe there may be some good reasons to spend a little more money on this new motherboard. In addition to the obvious things like Core i7 and three-channel memory support in six DIMM slots, this Asus motherboard offers something very exciting.

The Intel X58 is the first chipset to offer universal support for multiple graphics cards. In other words, it can handle both ATI Crossfire and Nvidia SLI technologies. That doesn't mean that all X58 motherboards absolutely support both, but the P6T Deluxe definitely does.

It is also worth noting that Asus offers an even more extreme game-oriented version of the Asus P6T Deluxe called Rampage II Extreme, which we would like to show you later. The P6T Deluxe, on the other hand, is more of an all-rounder, designed as a high-end Core i7 motherboard for everyone who wants to switch to this platform.

A lot has changed in the Core i7 processors, and these have also affected the chipset and motherboard design. For this reason, we would like to examine the Asus P6T Deluxe in more detail.
